Letter from the Club President to all Members

MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT

With the 2013 Home and Away season well underway for all our teams, I want to provide everyone with an update directly from me on the work being done to ensure the short, medium and long term future of our Football Club – and our Football Club future will always comprise both junior and senior teams.

I want to assure each and everyone that the future of the Football Club now and in the coming years is extremely positive and this club will continue to field junior and senior teams – the work done by many people within this Football Club has and continues to be too great for this to be anything but positive.

As I indicated in a message to all our club members in April last year, we have been involved in a range of meetings and negotiations with the WestbourneGrammar School over the last 12 months. These meetings have culminated in a signed interim agreement between the School and Old Westbourne Amateur Football Club for 2013, which includes pavilion and ground game and training usage requirements for this year. The School wishes to formalise this agreement for 2014 and beyond. The school has recently made it clear to our Football Club that, in their view, operating junior teams from the school facilities has placed excessive wear and tear on the grounds. To this end they have indicated the school’s desire that our junior teams do not play or train at the school grounds following the end of the 2013 season.

I reiterate to all – the Old Westbourne Amateur Football Club is ONE CLUB with, and always will have, both junior and senior teams.

To this end the Club has commenced discussions with the Wyndham City Council to source a permanent home ground and training venue for, at least, the Old Westbourne junior teams beyond 2013 (and for the years to come).

The Club will keep everyone updated with the progress of these discussions with the Council and I urge anyone who has any questions or wishes to get factual information and advice on what is really happening at our Club to please contact and speak to either myself or one of your Club’s committee members. Contact details for all committee members, should you require clarification or up to date information, is on our website and regular newsletter.

I want to thank all our players, parents, members and supporters for the continued support and acknowledge the hard work of our volunteer Club officials, who in their own time, work towards ensuring the long term success, viability and sustainability of our Club over the years to come.

Good luck to all our junior and senior teams over the 2013 season and I look forward to catching up with everyone at games and functions throughout the year.

Round 4 vs Therry Penola (U19s)

The boys effort for the 1^stQ and second half was full of endeavour, however a very poor second quarter with the wind was most disappointing. We are gaining some balance with our squad now and are looking for some consistent 4 quarter efforts, when we can achieve this, another win is just around the corner. Injuries to a few players are limiting our options and bench rotations, and we look forward to having a full list of fit players hopefully soon. The players know that they can match any team in the contest, but skill errors, lack of talk and poor decision making are harshly punished by the better teams. The boys are working hard at training on skills and structures and I am sure our second win is near. Best Players were Tate Stiles, Justin Damons and Josh Stephens –Trevor.

Latest News – Training & Ground Access

All Old Westbourne players/parents/officials please note that training will resume on the school ovals from this Thursday May 2nd. Please watch out for any further advice relating to training venues and times for your team.
Also note that, until further notice, access to the Grounds and Pavilion will only be via Gate C on Marquands Road. Parking will only be permitted in marked bays or as officially directed. IMPORTANT: NO PARKING will be permitted around the ovals (on the grass) on training days or game days. Please ensure that EVERYONE adheres to this. Thanks.
